For the better part of five decades, the AMG brand has become synonymous with passion and commitment to performance. The first big splash for AMG occurred at the 1971 24 Hours of Spa endurance. There, AMG debuted the Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.8-liter V8 sedan. The powerful four-door sedan named "The Red Pig" won its AMG name on the automotive map.
Over a decade later, AMG would unveil a Mercedes-Benz 300E with a 5.6-liter V8. Dubbed "The Hammer", it could hit a top speed of over 190 miles per hour, making it the fastest four-sedan of the time. In 1990, Mercedes-Benz and AMG officially became partners, and with it, the Mercedes-Benz AMG brand became a mainstream affair.
At the turn of the century, Mercedes-Benz AMG was busy dominating races in Germany with a special Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK. In 2010, Mercedes-Benz AMG developed their very own car in-house with the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. With the return of the iconic gullwing doors, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG showcases the signature blend of style and performance.
Today, after over half of a century, Mercedes-Benz AMG continues to push the limits of what is technologically possible in a performance car near Lebanon, NJ.
